Safety & trust

Diving with a buddy you just met carries real risk. Please read this before you dive with anyone you find here.

What DiveBuddy does โ€” and doesn't โ€” verify

DiveBuddy is a place to find dive buddies. All profile information โ€” names, photos, certification level, and dive counts โ€” is self-reported by users and is not verified by DiveBuddy. We do not check identities, certification cards, or experience. Treat every profile as an unverified introduction, not a guarantee.

Before you dive with someone

  • Meet in person first, ideally at the dive center, in a public place.
  • Check their certification card(and recent logged dives) with your own eyes โ€” don't rely on what their profile says.
  • Dive through a reputable dive centerwhere possible, so there's professional oversight.
  • Agree on a dive plan โ€” depth, time, turn-around pressure, signals, and what to do if you get separated.
  • Do a proper pre-dive buddy check every time.
  • Dive within your own training and limits, regardless of what your buddy wants to do. It's always OK to call a dive.

Protecting yourself

  • Keep early conversations inside the app until you trust someone.
  • Don't share home address, financial details, or documents with people you haven't met.
  • Tell someone you trust where and with whom you're diving.
  • If something feels off, don't dive. Your gut is part of your safety gear.

Your responsibility

By using DiveBuddy you confirm that the information on your profile is accurate โ€” especially your certification level and experience. Misrepresenting your qualifications can put you and others in danger. DiveBuddy is a tool for connecting divers and is not responsible for the conduct, qualifications, or safety of any user. You dive at your own risk.
